HP’s Laser Jet 4600dn produces essentially excellent text–clean, evenly weighted, and firm but not too bold or too heavy. It furthermore does a great job on gray-scale graphics, with great detail and realistic shading.
Performance is of course a strong point. The 4600dn is impressively quick in producing 8-by-10 photos. You can expect printed speeds impressively close to the claimed 17 pages per minute.
Text and photo output quality is good to excellent. However the driver chooses to print the monochrome photos in composite black rather than true black, giving the photo a distinct pink tinge. This is not a major criticism considering that this printer is designed with office work in mind.
One thing that should be acknowledge is the impressive networking options with the highly regarded HP network print servers options.
The HP Color Laser Jet 4600dndn printer is best placed in a small to medium work environment. Multiple connectivity choices and its speed at handling and finishing print jobs would allow it to perform admirably. As additional paper trays can be purchased, the amount of paper that can be stored would keep the flow of business running smoothly with less restocking involved. As well as the automatic duplex feature, it makes the decision of printing on one side or both sides an easy one without interrupting their work performance.

More annoying were gaps and unevenness in thin black lines between blocks of colors. None of these are reflective headache, but they may be an problem if you are picky about how graphics look. If the minor flaws in output quality are a concern, look to the Xerox Phaser 6200dp. Otherwise, the speed, idleness of installation, and network-management prowess make the HP Color LaserJet 4600dn a top choice.
