So many different people have at least one PC, and each person has a reason for it. For those people, there are reasons to have a PC pre-built or to build one themselves. The decision is based on what kind of desktop PC you’re looking for, and which pros and cons mean more to you.
Getting a PC is an investment, because they aren’t cheap. Price for a PC fluctuates based on brand, what they come with, and whether it was pre-built or custom built. It could be more expensive either way, all depending on what is going into it, but for building your own, you at least won’t pay for labor.
When it comes to buying one that’s pre-built, it will at least be easier. It has all the components readily installed, comes with a warranty (unlike building your own), and means no work is necessary to put it together. It’s as easy as matching up the components of each computer to what you are personally looking for.
On the downside, however, you don’t get complete control of what goes in it. You get everything you pay for, even if you don’t want to. Your computer may come with a 3.4ghz processor, for example, which is a component you wan, but also comes with a 2TB hard drive, which you don’t want. You’ll have to pay for both, regardless of whether you wanted the components or not, because it’s already pre-made. Also, if it matters enough, you can’t control any aesthetics either, such as a cool case.
But if you build a computer yourself, then you can include those things. You can put anything you want in it, from the most expensive to the least, making even the cost entirely up to you. You can customize how it looks, how powerful it is, literally anything you want. You just have to put it together, but beyond that, it’s all you.
The cons vary, but are pretty general. First off, you don’t get any warranty, so if you fry a part because you put it in wrong, then you just threw away all that money. Another issue is that there’s no guarantee. Building a computer yourself means anything could happen, and you could run into a plethora of problems.
So if you want a powerful, custom-made desktop pc and you have a pretty good idea of how to go about it, then building one yourself is probably the way to go. If you just want a computer and don’t really care what it has, then a pre-built is the way to play it safe. All you have to worry about is the way you want it, and that’s a pro all the way around.
